Remind Your Members of Congress to Sign Up for READ Posters

As part of Library Day on the Hill, Members of Congress will have the unique opportunity to make their own version of ALA’s famous READ posters.

Many legislators have signed up for this chance, but we still need more! Below is a list of those Members of Congress who have already signed up. If you don’t see your Representative or one or both of your Senators, write them and remind them to sign up!

Just have them call the ALA Washington Office to schedule; 202-628-8410, ask for Melanie or Andy, and they’ll see what time slots are available.

EDIT: For each Member of Congress that has a READ poster made, ALA will be sending that poster to the Member’s office in Washington, DC, and to each of the ALA member libraries in that legislator’s district. So, for example, when Sen. Jack Reed has a poster made we will send one to his office and one to each of the ALA member libraries in the state of Rhode Island. And when Rep. Xavier Becerra sits for a poster we will send one to his office and one to each ALA member library in California’s 31st district.

Beyond that, plans are still being made for wider distribution of the Congressional READ posters.

Senator Trent Lott is not from Michigan (MI), he’s from Mississippi (MS).

  2. The Miami-Dade Public Library System has had the privelege of using our County Mayor, members of the Board of County Commissioners, several city Mayors, a State of Florida Senator and several State of Florida Representatives as “models” for our READ ad campaign. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL- 18) and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL- 25) have also lent their support to our READ program.
