Ask Your Representative to Sign Two “Dear Colleagues”

Please call your representative in the U.S. House at (202) 224-3121 and ask him or her to sign on to the two “Dear Colleague” letters supporting library appropriations.

The first letter asks for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) to be appropriated at $232 million in FY2012, which is the level at which LSTA was last authorized in December 2010.  The second letter asks for the Improving Literacy Through School Libraries program to be appropriated at $19.1 million, which is the level it at which was last funded at in FY2010.

    Thank you for signing the two “Dear Colleague” letters supporting library appropriations. As you well know, school libraries are key to childhood literacy and the success that comes with education. In addition, libraries have become important locations for job seekers for computer access, employment information and resources, and workshops to develop resumes and interview skills.
