Clyburn spoke about the role of libraries in the national broadband plan and underscored the ALA’s position that anchor institutions — such as libraries — must be supported by the federal government in order to ensure that all members of the public have access to broadband as well as digital literacy skills.

Others speakers were ALA consultant Rich Stombres of D.C. firm Van Scoyoc Associates, who touched upon the political climate in Washington and the ALA Washington Office’s lobbying efforts on issues such as the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; Michelle Richardson, legislative consultant for the American Civil Liberties Union who spoke about cyber security; Larra Clark from the ALA Office for Research & Statistics who highlighted findings from the recently released 2010 Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study; and Jonathan Band, legal counsel to ALA who discussed copyright legislation.

Videos of each speaker are available at the ALA Washington Office Vimeo account.
