On July 1, over 1500 messages were sent to Congress about the importance of funding libraries!
This was part of ALA’s Virtual Library Day on the Hill, whereby attendees of ALA’s 2008 Annual Conference emailed and faxed their Members of Congress using computer terminals located on the exhibit floor. They were joined by library supporters from across the country, all calling attention to the immense value of today’s libraries.
Participants were also joined by a very special guest — NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — who wrote his Members of Congress using one of the terminals in the Internet Room.
The ALA Washington Office thanks everyone who participated!
And please remember, it doesn’t just have to be one day a year! The Washington Office offers a variety of information resources about current federal issues that impact libraries. Just visit www.ala.org/washoff to find out more!
