Today, ALA filed comments on an FCC proceeding (PDF) on the collection of data related to broadband deployment. In its brief statement, ALA supported recent changes made by the FCC on how the Commission collects data and how it will quantify broadband in the future.
In the proceeding, the Commission proposed creating a map of broadband access across the country with the data it collects. ALA strongly supports this idea, but encouraged the Commission to expand this data collection to include libraries as well as residential customers. ALA also spoke to some confidentiality concerns cited by the Commission in the proceeding.
