On December 5, Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced a revised version of the Senate bill Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National (OPEN) Government Act (S. 849). Both S. 849 and its House counterpart, H.R. 1309, passed earlier this year; however, Congress was unable to reconcile the bills, specifically “pay-go” concerns in the House.
Sens. Leahy and Cornyn hope the revised Senate bill, S. 2427, will pass by unanimous consent and then go the House for approval before this session ends.
See Sen. Leahy’s press release for details.
