On July 27, the U.S. Senate adopted an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appropriations bill that prohibits funding national identification cards and at the same time rejected an amendment that would have provided $300 million for REAL ID.

This is the second major effort ALA has made in opposition to national ID. Earlier this year, ALA signed on to letters to the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
